the pinions were cut with a home-made multi-tooth cutter.\u00a0 Division was accomplished with a simple dividing head using the Myford change wheels.<\/p>\n<p>The pendulum bob was constructed from two brass shells spun over a wooden former and soft-soldered together before filling with lead.\u00a0 The weight is a length of brass bar.<\/p>\n<p>The striking mechanism derives its power from the pendulum.\u00a0 Thus only one train is required.\u00a0 Henry Ward invented this system in 1805.<\/p>\n<p>The datework was devised around 1740 by William Ludlum; it makes allowances for different lengths of months and leap years.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bradfordmes.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/1920\/11\/01-Wall-clock-2-movement-rotated.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-4163 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bradfordmes.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/1920\/11\/01-Wall-clock-2-movement-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bradfordmes.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/1920\/11\/01-Wall-clock-2-movement-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.bradfordmes.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/1920\/11\/01-Wall-clock-2-movement-rotated.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a>The case is constructed from oak-veneered ply-wood, with solid oak sections and flat pieces, e.g. the doorframe, supports for the shelf and various mouldings.<\/p>\n<p>The dial is made in the traditional manner.\u00a0 The chapter ring was engraved on the lathe, the numerals being wax filled before silvering the ring.\u00a0 The Arabic numerals on the date ring were engraved by a professional engraver;
